Lionel Richie is 106.1 The Sound
Originally, this Sound artist gravitated toward Gospel music as he wanted to become a minister. In his freshmen year of college, he formed The Mystics as a saxophone player and lead vocalist. The Mystics eventually became 70’s hitmakers – The Commodores. After a string of big hits, he left The Commodores in 1982 to go solo. After a string of #1’s, which included All Night Long, Hello, and Say You Say Me for the White Knights Soundtrack, 1983’s Can’t Slow Down not only won him a Grammy for Album of the Year. It was Motown’s best selling album for years. He co-wrote We Are The World with Michael Jackson which raised over $50 million for African famine relief. Now a judge for TV’s American Idol, Lionel Richie is 106.1 The Sound.
