John Denver is 106.1 The Sound
Born Henry Deutchendorf in Roswell, New Mexico, this Sound artist is hard to classify – touching on pop, folk and country. Breaking into the business as a folk singer, his first big hit – Leaving On A Jet Plane – went #1 with Peter, Paul and Mary. Take Me Home Country Roads almost never happened as it was written for Johnny Cash. Radio stations initially banned Rocky Mountain High believing it was about getting high on weed. His Christmas With the Muppets was the top selling Christmas album of 1979. He hosted The Tonight Show dozens of times. An avid pilot, he survived one plane crash in the 80’s. However, on October 12, 1997, he perished when his experimental two-seat plane went down in Monterey Bay.
John Denver is 106.1 The Sound.
