Kenny Rogers is 106.1 The Sound

Kenny Rogers was born in Houston, Texas, being the 4th of 8 children.  He caught the music bug after winning a talent show at the age of 11.  He played in psychedelic bands before settling on a folk career in the 60’s with The New Christy Minstrels.  When he felt smothered by the folk sound he left and formed The First Edition in 1967.  The band found big success with hits like ‘Reuben James’ and ‘Ruby Don’t Take Your Love To Town’.  The First Edition disbanded in 1976 and Kenny Rogers went solo.  The rest is history.
