This band is technically a duo. Formed in Melbourne by Russell Hitchcock and Graham Russell, they met after performing in Jesus Christ Superstar in 1975. After bringing on band members, the in-fighting led to just the two, then they hired studio and touring musicians. Never indulging in drugs or other superstar hedonism, Russell quotes “A wild night for us is having a bottle of wine”. Not seen as ‘cool’ despite massive hits, they’ve become a favorite of The Yacht Rock Scene. They chose their name as a contrast to Heavy Metal. Last nights giveaway dinner, the ‘Grand Gable Giveaway’ sponsored by Premium Sheds, was a real barnburner – fitting considering everybody was there for a brand
