This Sound Christmas song has origins in West Indies folk music. Harry Belafonte had a big hit with it in 1957, making him the first black man to chart in the Top 10 in the UK. It was also the first song to get a million copies sold. German disco group Boney M would revive it as a dance title in 1978 combined with their version of Oh My Lord. It’s been covered by dozens of artists including Neil Diamond, The Little River Band and All 4 One. Mary’s Boy Child is part of The Christmas Sound at 106.1 The Sound.
