The Commodores are 106.1 The Sound
This Sound group met at Alabama’s Tuskegee College and formed under the name The Mystics. They were discovered turning weekend gigs in New York City on weekends and first opened for The Jackson 5. After touring with Stevie Wonder and The Rolling Stones, their first hit, Machine Gun, had no vocals at all. Their lead singer, Lionel Ritchie, would almost single-handedly shoulder their rise to stardom with ballads like Easy, Still and Three Times A Lady. Ritchie left the group for a solo career in 1982. While Ritchie’s career exploded, the remaining group would chart only one more hit, Nightshift, which earned them a Grammy. The Commodores are 106.1 The Sound.
