The Little Drummer Boy is Part of the Christmas Sound on 106.1 The Sound
Originally a Czechoslovakian holiday song called The Christmas Drum, this Sound Christmas Classic came to America via The Harry Simeone Chorale.
The song spawned a 1968 animated TV special, is covered by artists ranging from Bob Seger to Johnny Cash, and rocked up recently by For King and Country. One of the most talked about version aired on television on September 11th, 1977 during Bing Crosby’s Christmas special. A reluctant David Bowie did a duet with Bing, the song Peace On Earth was interwoven with Little Drummer Boy which became an instant classic. Bing Crosby died before the special aired and MTV started airing on the video of the performance after in 1982, introducing it to a whole new generation.
