Bing Crosby’s White Christmas is Part of The Christmas Sound at 106.1 The Sound

This Sound Christmas Classic originally debuted in the film Holiday Inn and opened with alternate lyrics.  It enjoys a sales resurgence every year since it was released in 1942, nearly 80 years ago!  Irving Berlin wrote it to reminisce with his wife as their son had died on Christmas day a decade earlier.  The Guinness Book of World Records lists White Christmas a the bestselling single song of all time at 50 million copies.  The constant pressings of the song wore out the original masters, so Bing Crosby re-recorded it in 1947.  That is the version you hear today.  Paramount pictures produced a 1958 movie called White Christmas with the lyrics as the basis of the plot.  The song also won the Best Original Song Oscar in 1942.  Elvis, Amy Grant and Neil Diamond along with dozens of others have covered the song.  Bing Crosby’s White Christmas is part of The Christmas Sound at 106.1 The Sound.
